For venues

Somebody searches "club in Canggu" on TikTok. Is your venue in the results?

Somebody lands in Bali on Friday and wants to go out on Saturday. They do not open a search engine. They open TikTok and type "club in Canggu", and they scroll the videos that come back. Whether one of those videos is yours is not luck, and it is not follower count either.

A video platform that works like a search engine

TikTok search returns videos ranked on what is in them, not on who posted them. That is the part worth understanding, because it inverts the usual logic: a clip from a creator with two thousand followers can sit above one from an account with two hundred thousand, if it answers the search better.

It also has no expiry in the way a feed does. A post that matches a common search keeps being served to people making that search, months after it went up.

What the platform can actually read

It cannot watch your video the way a person does. It reads the text: what is written on screen, what is said out loud and transcribed, the caption, and the hashtags. Those are the parts that decide which searches a clip can answer.

Which is why a beautiful video of your venue with the caption "vibes" is invisible to search. Nothing in it says what the place is or where it is.

The three phrases that need to be in the video

Put them on screen and say them out loud. Not as a list, as part of the video.

  • What the place is. Beach club, natural wine bar, pilates studio, day spa. The words somebody would type, not the words on your brand deck.
  • Where it is. The area, spelled the way people search it: Canggu, Thonglor, Kemang, Rawai, Marina.
  • What it is for. Sunset, a working morning, a birthday dinner, a treatment on a day off.

Searches are phrases, not keywords

People do not search "restaurant". They search "best brunch Canggu", "rooftop bar Bangkok", "spa Seminyak massage". Three or four words, and usually a place and a purpose.

That is the phrase a video should be able to answer. If you can say out loud what somebody would type to find a place like yours, you have written the brief.

Why this favours a creator over your own account

A venue posting about itself is competing in search with everybody else posting about themselves, and the platform knows the difference between an advert and a recommendation.

A creator showing up, being handed something, and saying what it was does the same job in a register the platform and the viewer both respond to better. That is the whole mechanism, and it is why a dedicated Reel or TikTok is worth more than a Story that disappears.

It is the same job as the Maps review

Both are about being findable by somebody who is already looking. A Maps review answers the search that happens in Google. A TikTok answers the one that happens in TikTok, and increasingly that is the first one.

Run them together. The same visit can produce both, and they reach two different people at two different moments of deciding.

Put a dedicated Reel or TikTok in your offer, say which words have to be in it, and let the creator make it.
